This may seem a strange post, a SEO blog promoting other SEO blogs… but from my experience reading blogs is a fantastic way to learn! In the early days of my SEO career I tried to read a few blogs every day when I had chance and just for picking up the basics can be done very quickly (and hopefully this blog will help you pick up the basics too!).

There are a lot of great blogs out there but here are 5 to get you started

SEOmozhttp://www.seomoz.org/blog

In their own words “Keep up to date with the most current News, Tips & Highlights from the search marketing industry with the daily SEO Blog.”. It’s also worth noting that SEOmoz have some great SEO tools which are worth checking out.

Search Engine Landhttp://searchengineland.com/

This site was started by a journalist called Danny Sullivan and has been covering search for over 11 years! The site features recent search news but also a great How-to section. It is worth keeping a close eye on the site as it does feature a premium service if you want to read posts from their archives but if your on a tight budget at the moment, get reading!! Or just add it to your RSS reader… that is what this is about after all!

Search Engine Journalhttp://www.searchenginejournal.com/

A great SEO blog with many bloggers posting entries to fill up your RSS readers! Because of the vast amount of writers you do get quite a range of topics which is great when your learning! It’s also worth noting the list of blogs they suggest and directories if you need help finding some for link building.

Search Cowboyshttp://www.searchcowboys.com/

This site has only been around for a few months (and features the most entertaining logo of all SEO websites!) but features a lot of good bloggers such as Peter Young, Jon Myers and Bas van den Beld. Great for current news and event coverage, most recently their coverage of SES New York

Sphinnhttp://www.sphinn.com

Sphinn gets a special mention just because it’s such a useful site, ok its not a blog but trust me you want to be visiting this site several times a day. If you have never come across Sphinn before it’s basically a bit like Digg or Reddit for Internet marketers with everyone posting links to blog posts or interesting news stories, and like Digg and Reddit everyone can then vote (or sphinn) the stories, the best making the front page. This is a great way of interacting with other Internet markets and learning at the same time!

So go read them, add them to your RSS readers and enjoy!

  13. I found your blog from a comment on ProBlogger, and I am happy I did! I am certainly going to check out some of the feeds you recommended, and I have already bookmarked one for resources! Thanks for the great info!
I have just one tip for you: include contact info on each blog, it makes it easy for people to follow your stuff. For example…your Twitter name?
    Good luck with the 31DBBB!

Hello thank you for your comment! I have included a link to my twitter page on the “About” page, I do need to have a bit of a redesign and include contact info like that on a sidebar or something similar.
    Thanks again

I, too, came over from 31BBB. Love the site and am subscribing, though I do have one suggestion: I don’t like to read my subscriptions in a reader. I prefer newsletters or email notifications. There’s quite a few out there who prefer it that way as well, so you might add that as an option. I have several hundred posts I haven’t read in Google Reader, but not one newsletter/email notification goes totally unread. It’s more ‘in my face-you have to read this’. :-)

Hi! Thanks for visiting! I’ll be honest, I hadn’t actually thought about setting up a newsletter/email notification system, was only going to reply on RSS and people coming to the site. It is something I will look into though, just need to get more readers coming to the site to make it worthwile. I best get writing!

  17. Awesome information here and hope for some new updates by you. I really appreciated it and thanks for sharing your best effort among the community.

  18. Chloe says:

Hi! I’m another Problogger challenger and came over from your Day 3 comment. As you can see I’m a bit behind with the whole 31 day thing – more like 1 challenge a week for me. Anyway I checked out the sites you recommend and I only had SEOmoz in my reader so added the others including yours!

  19. admin says:

Thanks for the visit Chloe. I have to admit, I too have fallen behind on the ProBlogger challenge (and it’s now over!!) but I’m sure we can both catch up :)
