I want to throw this open to readers, If you could change one thing, or have one addition to twitter what would it be?

For me it would probably be html in posts. A lot of people nowerdays link through to interesting blogs or articles which nine times out of ten are a tinyurl link. If html could be used normal <a href> links could then be used, and depending on if Twitter made all links no follow or not, an even greater chance to use Twitter for SEO purposes. Other uses could be to highlight important parts of the 140 character message, for example making some text bold. certainly catches the eye.

But would the html have to count towards the 140 limit? Perhaps, this would make the posts shorter, but maybe more pleasing but it does run the risk of lots of people posting everything they say in bold or italics. Which would get very annoying very quickly.

So for my suggestion it turns out even I have issues with it. So I hope you all can come up with better ones!

By now most people have heard of Twitter, this probably wasn’t the case a year ago but throughout 2008 Twitter really came into it’s own and left its main rivals behind.

I first started using Twitter back in April as I didn’t really understand what it could be used for… it seemed to be a site dedicated to peoples status updates and at first I didn’t like it, but I stayed with it posting updates now and then. It was only from around July time I took another proper look at Twitter and noticed just the many uses there was and from then I have loved it ever since.

These days Twitter is filled with updates with various stories behind them all, from posting a picture of the recent plane crash in the Hudson river in New York minutes after the plane came down to celebrities telling the world what they are up to.

Twitter has turned into such a useful tool that it can be used for almost everything and anyone. Businesses can use it to talk about products they have in development or offers they have on at the moment… bloggers and tell people about a recent post and respond to people who reply, it’s the easy communication that has helped drive Twitter forward and by only allowing 140 characters it allows people to get straight to the point (although I have noticed people use several updates to get there view across… that’s cheating people!)

So in this still very new year, I see many more businesses jumping on the Twitter bandwagon to try to get ahead of their competitors… who already will be there.
