Welcome to the first in a series which is for bloggers. As I said in an I am currently taking part in Pro Bloggers 31 Day Challenge to a Better Blog, which I am enjoying and is a great learning experience.

One thing that has come of it and the challenge forum is a request for some posts about SEO for bloggers.

So to kick things off I am going to start with information on valuable SEO Wordpress plugins that you should use on your blog.

All in One SEO pack

And I have started with the most important of them all, you NEED this plug in! With this plug in you can sort out a lot of SEO problems in one go most of them automatically including canonicalisation issues (as long as you turn that option on). Also you have total control of the meta description, keywords and page title for each page and post of your blog so you can fully optimise the site. Get it now if you havn’t already installed it half way reading this paragraph, because I will be doing a post about the best way to optimise a site using this plug in!

Google XML Sitemaps

This plug in will generate a sitemap quickly and easily so you can add it to Google webmaster tools to help Google index your site easier.

Robots Meta

I wouldn’t be surprised if a few people reading this got very confused by reading Robots Meta! This refers to the robots.txt file which exists (if created) on the root of your hosting server. From here you can control what search engine robots can have access to and what it allows to be indexed in the search engines. For example you don’t want Google to index your admin pages.

Ultimate Google Analytics

The easiest way of adding Google Analytics to your blog. Sign up for analytics and get account ID. Paste the code into the Google Analytics settings page and your done! Told you it was easy!

Ok so there are a couple of other options, but the basic set up is easy!

Woopra Analytics

Ok maybe not necessary and yes it is another Analytics package and will give you the same information as Google Analytics like what page was accessed, how long a user was on the page, what browser they used and what operating system they used. What Woopra can offer is real time tracking so you can see exactly when and where and what page they are viewing in real time. It can become a little distracting from other work as you watch people from across the globe read your blog but it sure is fun.

WordPress.com Stats

What! More stats?! Yes ok, but I quite like stats and those who have previously had a blog that is hosted on wordpress will be used to the stats they provide, including a list of most read posts. It’s quite a nice simple stats package if all you want to know which post is performing the best. All you need is your wordpress API key to use the plug in.

So that’s it! Now go and try the plug ins and let me know what you think of them or if there is anything else you want to know either on the comments or a direct message on Twitter @pinje
